The Ravine: a family, a photograph, a Holocaust massacre revealed

Paul Salmons in conversation with Dr Wendy Lower about her research in Ukraine, Germany, Slovakia, Israel, and the United States to unearth the story behind one photograph, a group of uniformed men shooting a Jewish woman and children.

Through forensic investigations into that single image, Lower reveals a landscape of mass murder in the East, a ‘Holocaust by bullets’ that killed some two million people. Through her focus on the murder of this one family, she reveals the horror behind a continent-wide genocide.

Online talk hosted by the Museum of Jewish Heritage, New York City, 27 April 2021.
